We had houseguests all last week, and at first I was all, “Oh, they’ll want to sleep in. I’ll get up early and keep to my work schedule including blogging time” but our guests wanted to see the malls, and the historic section of Dubai, and the Creek, then we decided to go off on a road trip to Ras Al Khaimah, and the babies got off-schedule and began skipping naps and soon I was the person falling asleep in my soup. So: places were visited, snapshots were taken, conversations were had, souvenirs were haggled for, swimsuits were worn, a whole lot of good food was consumed, and no work got done. Which I guess is the whole point of vacationing, or having houseguests.
Next week, though, we will be back to our schedule, complete with enforced naptimes, and I will have the usual amount of fascinating blog posts for you. There is one about the various mocktails available in Sharjah these days, and another about my TBR pile, and a review of Augusten Burroughs’ Running With Scissors.
(Also, I feel I should add that our houseguests didn’t arrive with giant plaid suitcases. They are really very tastefully luggaged people. That’s just the kind of suitcase I like to draw.)

I wouldn’t mind having a giant plaid suitcase. I once bought a car because it had plaid upholstery.
Glad you’re back!

I’m glad you’re back…I thought maybe the authorities had yanked your blog, although for what, I couldn’t imagine. Imagination working overtime.

It sounds like you had a wonderful time with your houseguests, although entertaining is always more exhausting than one anticipates. When my son was small we used to have people over every few months or so because it was the only way the house got a really good clean

Julie, what is it about cars? I bought my first car because it was my favorite color (it was a terrible car and never ran right). Now I want a plaid car.
Bybee, if I ever get yanked from the Internet I am counting on you to keep the book-lovin’-expat show alive.
Litlove – you are exactly right about the cleaning. I should really invite people over just so I have an excuse to scrub the closets and clean the rug.
